Greetings fellow soap lovers and friends!
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and we like to think our soap (or a photograph of it) speaks volumes to its viewers. That is why we enjoy posting our soap and soap-related images on Instagram. However, there has been a bit of a journey getting to the enjoyment part of using this avenue of social media as we were not altogether thrilled with the medium.
When we had our kick-off meeting at LaBarge Media, we were asked if we were on social media. We answered, we were not as there seemed to be too many trolls on it, and, more importantly, we had an incredibly difficult time putting anything on it. It was no exaggeration when we said what took the average person five minutes to post, took us an hour! As our products are so visual, LaBarge reasoned, Instagram would be a perfect medium, and it only involved taking photos. We were a bit dubious, but willing to give it a try if we could get a bit of instruction on the process. Were we ever shocked!
Once we set up an account, which was pretty straight forward, we did our own bit of research on how often and time of day to post photos to maximize viewability. We began following a few friends and asked others to follow us (those at LaBarge were our first followers—many thanks)! They also advised on how to take photos, and although it has only been a few weeks, posting on Instagram has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Not like work at all, which is wonderful as we have enough “work” to keep us very busy.
Our initial photo was of a slice of our Santa’s Cookie Cake soap and has progressed to one of a bespoke soap order.
Of course, not all Instagram posts are of soap. We do and will occasionally post photos from our life, such as the cookies we made and painted at a recent cookie making class. Yes, THESE are the edible kind, and they are as yummy as they look!
